Carnival Row (2019) is a fantasy television series created by René Echevarria and Travis Beacham. Set in a Victorian-inspired world filled with mythological creatures, the series combines elements of fantasy, mystery, and political intrigue.
The story is set in the city of Burgue, a bustling metropolis where humans coexist with mythological creatures such as faeries, centaurs, and other mystical beings. Tensions run high between the immigrant creatures and the human population, exacerbated by social inequality and political unrest.
The narrative follows Rycroft “Philo” Philostrate (Orlando Bloom), a detective investigating a series of gruesome murders targeting faeries in Carnival Row, a neighborhood where mythical creatures reside. Philo’s investigation leads him to uncover dark secrets that threaten to unravel the fragile peace between humans and creatures.
At the center of the story is Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne), a faerie who reunites with Philo after believing him to be dead. Their complicated and forbidden love story unfolds amidst the turmoil of political conspiracies, societal prejudice, and the struggle for survival in a city on the brink of chaos.
