The story is set in the city of Burgue, a bustling metropolis where humans coexist with mythological creatures such as faeries, centaurs, and other mystical beings. Tensions run high between the immigrant creatures and the human population, exacerbated by social inequality and political unrest.
The narrative follows Rycroft “Philo” Philostrate (Orlando Bloom), a detective investigating a series of gruesome murders targeting faeries in Carnival Row, a neighborhood where mythical creatures reside. At the center of the story is Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne), a faerie who reunites with Philo after believing him to be dead.
