Dredd (2012)

“Dredd” (2012) is a gritty, action-packed science fiction film directed by Pete Travis and starring Karl Urban as Judge Dredd. The film is a reboot of the “Judge Dredd” franchise, which is based on the British comic book character created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra.
Set in a dystopian future where the world is devastated by nuclear war and society has collapsed into Mega-City One, a sprawling, crime-ridden metropolis, the film follows Judge Dredd, a law enforcement officer with the power to act as judge, jury, and executioner.
In “Dredd,” the titular character is assigned to evaluate rookie Judge Anderson, played by Olivia Thirlby, who possesses psychic abilities. They are tasked with investigating a high-rise building controlled by the ruthless drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), who runs an illegal drug trade that has caused widespread chaos. The building is a vertical slum, and as Dredd and Anderson try to bring Ma-Ma to justice, they find themselves trapped inside, facing a relentless battle against her gang.
“Dredd” is known for its intense action sequences, dark and gritty atmosphere, and a faithful adaptation of the comic book’s tone. The film is appreciated for its strong visual style, brutal violence, and Karl Urban’s performance as the no-nonsense, stoic Judge Dredd, staying true to the character’s iconic portrayal in the comics.
