Attraction (2017)
“Attraction” (2017) is a Russian science fiction film directed by Fyodor Bondarchuk. The film stars Irina Starshenbaum, Alexander Petrov, Rinal Mukhametov, and Oleg Menshikov.
The story begins when an unidentified flying object is shot down by the Russian military and crash-lands in a densely populated district of Moscow. The government quickly quarantines the area, and tensions rise as the public reacts with a mix of fear, curiosity, and hostility toward the extraterrestrial visitors.
Yulia Lebedeva (Irina Starshenbaum), a young woman whose life is disrupted by the crash, becomes central to the unfolding events. Her father, Colonel Valentin Lebedev (Oleg Menshikov), is in charge of the military operation surrounding the crash site.
Yulia encounters one of the alien survivors, Hijken (Rinal Mukhametov), who appears human and speaks Russian. As she gets to know him, she learns that not all of the aliens are hostile and that their advanced technology and motives are more complex than initially thought.
As fear and violence escalate among the human population, Yulia and Hijken must navigate the growing chaos to uncover the truth about the aliens’ mission and intentions. The film explores themes of xenophobia, the consequences of fear-driven actions, and the potential for understanding and cooperation between different species.
“Attraction” is noted for its impressive visual effects, particularly in the depiction of the alien spacecraft and technology. It combines elements of action, drama, and romance, providing a thought-provoking look at how humanity might respond to first contact with extraterrestrial beings. The film’s blend of high-stakes conflict and personal relationships offers a fresh perspective within the science fiction genre.
