“Avatar” is a 2009 epic science fiction film directed by James Cameron. Set in the mid-22nd century, the story follows Jake Sully, a paraplegic former Marine who is recruited to participate in the Avatar Program on the lush alien world of Pandora. By using an avatar—a genetically engineered body that can be remotely controlled—Jake (played by Sam Worthington) is able to walk again and explore Pandora’s vibrant ecosystem.
On Pandora, he encounters the indigenous Na’vi people and meets Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), a skilled warrior.
