The Day (2011)

“The Day” (2011) is a post-apocalyptic horror-thriller directed by Douglas Aarniokoski. The film follows a group of five survivors navigating a bleak and dangerous world after an unspecified global catastrophe.

The survivors—Rick (Dominic Monaghan), Adam (Shawn Ashmore), Mary (Ashley Bell), Shannon (Shannyn Sossamon), and Henson (Cory Hardrict)—are on the run, struggling to find shelter, food, and safety in a landscape overrun with violence and despair.

The group takes refuge in an abandoned farmhouse, but what they believe to be a temporary sanctuary quickly becomes a death trap. As they prepare to defend themselves against external threats, tensions rise within the group, revealing hidden motives and testing their trust in each other.

Soon, they discover that a brutal band of cannibals is hunting them, leading to a desperate and bloody fight for survival.
“The Day” is known for its gritty, low-budget style, dark atmosphere, and intense action sequences. The film explores themes of survival, loyalty, and the loss of humanity in a world stripped of civilization. Despite mixed reviews, The Day gained attention for its raw depiction of life in a post-apocalyptic world and its emphasis on character-driven tension amid brutal violence.
