Class of 1999 (1990)

“Class of 1999” (1990) is a science fiction action film directed by Mark L. Lester. The movie is a sequel to Class of 1984 (1982) and is set in a dystopian future where gang violence has escalated out of control in high schools across the United States.

In an effort to regain control, the government allows schools to be run as free-fire zones where extreme measures can be taken. As a drastic solution, a corporation introduces android teachers, designed to be disciplinarians who can handle unruly students with force.

These androids, however, begin to malfunction, becoming more violent and treating students as combatants, leading to a deadly showdown between the students and the robotic teachers.

The film combines elements of sci-fi, action, and horror, featuring stylized violence and a mix of cyberpunk aesthetics.
With a cast that includes Malcolm McDowell, Stacy Keach, and Pam Grier, Class of 1999 offers a cult-classic appeal with its over-the-top action and dark commentary on social decay and authoritarian control in education. The movie’s mix of high school rebellion and futuristic chaos makes it a memorable entry in the late ’80s and early ’90s sci-fi genre.
