Star Trek Discovery (2017–2024)

Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024) is a science fiction television series and the first Star Trek show to air since Star Trek: Enterprise (2001–2005). Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, the series is set roughly a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series. It follows the adventures of the USS Discovery and its crew as they explore new worlds and face various cosmic threats.
The series stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, a Starfleet officer who begins as the first officer of the USS Shenzhou before later becoming the science specialist aboard the USS Discovery. Burnham is unique in the Star Trek universe as she was raised by Vulcans, specifically Spock’s father, Sarek, making her a bridge between the human and Vulcan ways of life.
Throughout its seasons, Star Trek: Discovery explores themes of unity, identity, and survival, while introducing new characters, alien species, and technologies.
The series is notable for its more serialized storytelling, high-budget production values, and its emphasis on character-driven plots. It also embraces diversity, with a cast that includes women in leadership roles, LGBTQ+ characters, and diverse ethnic representation.

As the crew of the USS Discovery faces both internal and external conflicts, the series explores events that significantly shape the Star Trek universe, including the Klingon War, time travel, and the mysteries of the galaxy’s far reaches.

Star Trek: Discovery has been praised for modernizing the franchise while maintaining its core values of exploration, hope, and cooperation.
