Warcraft 2: Wrath of the Lich King (2025)

Warcraft 2: Wrath of the Lich King is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 film Warcraft, based on the immensely popular video game franchise developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Directed by Duncan Jones (who also helmed the first film), this sequel shifts its focus to one of the most iconic and tragic stories in the Warcraft universe—the rise of the Lich King, the undead ruler of the frozen land of Northrend, and the devastating war he wages against both the Alliance and the Horde.

The film picks up several years after the events of Warcraft (2016), where the orc Durotan (played by Toby Kebbell) led the Draenor survivors into Azeroth, and the brutal war between the Alliance and the Horde escalated. After the fall of the dark sorcerer Gul’dan, the orcs and humans remain in a fragile, uneasy truce, though the scars of their conflict are deep.

In the sequel, the central focus is on Arthas Menethil (played by Charlie Hunnam), a young prince of Lordaeron whose ambition, grief, and desire to protect his people lead him down a dark and tragic path. Arthas’s descent into madness and corruption forms the heart of the story as he seeks the power to protect his kingdom from the Scourge—an undead plague sweeping through the land. His journey takes him to Northrend, where he encounters the ancient and powerful Kil’jaeden and ultimately becomes the Lich King, wielding the cursed sword Frostmourne.

The film explores Arthas’s tragic fall from grace, depicting his internal struggle between his noble intentions and the malevolent forces that slowly take control of his mind and body. His transformation into the Lich King, a being of pure darkness, is both heart-wrenching and horrifying as he sacrifices his humanity for ultimate power in an effort to save his people—only to unleash an even greater evil upon the world.
