Watch:
Set in 1905, Apostle is a chilling tale of faith, desperation, and brutality. Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens), a man with a tortured past, travels to a remote island off the British coast to rescue his kidnapped sister, Jennifer, from a fanatical cult. The island is home to a mysterious community led by the charismatic and enigmatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen), who claims divine guidance while ruling with an iron fist.
As Thomas infiltrates the cult under the guise of a convert, he discovers the community’s disturbing practices and dark secrets. The island harbors an ancient, otherworldly presence that Malcolm and his followers have bound through blood sacrifice to ensure their prosperity.
However, the entity’s power is waning, and the cult grows increasingly desperate to restore their goddess’s strength, putting Jennifer’s life in grave danger.
Thomas’s investigation reveals shocking truths about the cult’s origins and the monstrous cost of their rituals. In his quest to save his sister, he must face his own inner demons and survive a harrowing battle against fanatics, a vengeful supernatural force, and his crumbling sanity.
Gareth Evans, known for The Raid films, masterfully crafts an atmosphere of dread and suspense in Apostle, blending historical drama with visceral horror. The film explores themes of religious extremism, human sacrifice, and the corrupting allure of power, delivering a haunting and visually stunning descent into madness.
