The Amateur (2025) is an upcoming American spy thriller film directed by James Hawes and written by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli. It is based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Robert Littell and stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne.
The film follows Charles Heller, a CIA cryptographer who loses his wife in a London terrorist attack. Realizing his bosses will not act due to conflicting internal priorities, Heller blackmails the agency to train him as a field operative and embarks on a one-man mission to hunt down his wife’s killers.
The Amateur is scheduled to be released in the United States by 20th Century Studios on April 11, 2025.
