Turbo Kid (2015)

Turbo Kid is a post-apocalyptic science fiction film directed by François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell.
Set in a dystopian future during the 1990s, the film combines elements of retro action, adventure, and dark comedy with a distinct ’80s aesthetic.
The story is set in a barren wasteland following a global apocalypse. It follows a teenage scavenger known only as The Kid (Munro Chambers), who idolizes superheroes and dreams of being a hero himself.
The Kid spends his days scavenging for old technology and comic books while avoiding the violent gangs that roam the wasteland.

When he discovers a powerful and ancient piece of technology—an armored suit with incredible capabilities—he is thrust into a battle against the tyrannical warlord Zeus (Michael Irby) and his gang. The Kid is joined by Apple (Laurence Leboeuf), a quirky and optimistic girl who becomes his ally and love interest. Together, they must fight to protect their newfound home and stop Zeus from dominating the wasteland.

Turbo Kid is known for its homage to ’80s action and sci-fi films, blending nostalgic references with its own unique style. The film features a colorful, retro-futuristic visual style, practical effects, and over-the-top action sequences, alongside a soundtrack that echoes the era’s synth-driven music. Its blend of humor, action, and homage to classic genre films has made it a cult favorite among fans of retro and indie cinema.
