The story is presented in a found-footage style, following three high school friends—Andrew Detmer (Dane DeHaan), Matt Garetty (Alex Russell), and Steve Montgomery (Michael B. Jordan)—who discover a mysterious, glowing object in an underground cave.
Shortly after their encounter with the object, they develop telekinetic powers, allowing them to move objects with their minds, fly, and perform other incredible feats.
Initially, the trio uses their newfound abilities for fun and mischief, testing the limits of their powers. However, as they grow stronger, they begin to face personal challenges and moral dilemmas.
Andrew, who comes from a troubled home and is bullied at school, starts to lose control and becomes increasingly violent, posing a danger to himself and others. Matt and Steve must confront the consequences of their actions and try to stop Andrew before his powers spiral out of control.
