Army of the Dead (2021)

Army of the Dead is a zombie heist action film directed by Zack Snyder, known for his work in the superhero and action genres. Released in 2021 on Netflix, the film offers a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse, combining elements of horror, action, and crime thrillers.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, which has been overrun by zombies and quarantined from the rest of the world. A group of mercenaries, led by former soldier Scott Ward (played by Dave Bautista), is hired to infiltrate the zombie-infested city and retrieve $200 million from a vault beneath one of the casinos before the U.S. government nukes the area to wipe out the zombies.
As the team ventures into the city, they encounter various challenges, including intelligent and highly organized “Alpha” zombies that pose a far greater threat than the typical undead. The mission quickly turns into a battle for survival as the mercenaries fight to escape with their lives, facing treachery, personal conflicts, and the ticking clock of impending destruction.
Army of the Dead stands out for its thrilling action sequences, colorful ensemble cast, and unique blend of heist and horror genres. The film also explores themes of family, sacrifice, and redemption, particularly through Scott’s strained relationship with his estranged daughter, Kate (Ella Purnell).

The film received praise for its stylish direction, visual effects, and entertainment value, though opinions were mixed on its pacing and story depth. Nonetheless, Army of the Dead was successful and spawned additional projects within its universe, including a prequel (Army of Thieves) and an upcoming animated series.

It’s a fun, action-packed film that offers a twist on the typical zombie movie formula, with Zack Snyder’s trademark visual style.
