Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009)

Watch:

Set in Rhode Island, the film follows the life of Parker Wilson (played by Richard Gere), a music professor at a local college who adopts an Akita puppy, whom he names Hachiko (simply referred to as Hachi). After discovering the dog at a train station, Parker forms an instant bond with the puppy, and Hachi quickly becomes part of the Wilson family.

Parker’s wife, Cate (Joan Allen), and their daughter, Andy (Sarah Roemer), are initially hesitant about the new addition but soon come to love Hachi. The dog proves to be a loyal and affectionate companion to the entire family.

The central part of the story revolves around Hachi’s daily ritual of waiting at the train station for Parker to return from work. Every afternoon, Hachi accompanies Parker to the station, and then waits for him to return on the same train in the evening. This routine continues faithfully for years, and the bond between Hachi and Parker grows even deeper.

Tragedy strikes when Parker suddenly dies of a heart attack while at work. Despite his owner’s death, Hachi continues to wait for him at the train station every day for nearly 10 years, until his own passing. Hachi’s loyalty becomes a symbol of devotion and unconditional love, and the story of his steadfast wait touches the hearts of the local community.
