12 Feet Deep (2017) is a taut, psychological thriller that centers around two sisters, Bree (Nora-Jane Noone) and Jonna (Alexandra Park), who find themselves trapped in a horrifying and life-threatening situation. The story begins on a seemingly relaxing summer day at a luxurious, high-end pool. After their attempt to unwind at a private pool, the sisters’ lives take a sudden and terrifying turn.

While visiting the pool, the two are caught in an accident and mistakenly locked inside a deep pool’s access room. Unfortunately for them, the pool’s cover is closed, trapping them at the bottom of the pool in a small, confined space. This terrifying predicament is exacerbated by their inability to escape due to the absence of a phone signal and no immediate way of communicating with the outside world.

As the hours pass, the confined space becomes increasingly unbearable, and the two sisters’ relationship is tested. With no way out, their emotional and physical endurance is pushed to the limit.

Their differing personalities and their personal history add emotional complexity to the narrative. Bree, more independent and pragmatic, tries to keep calm and focus on survival, while Jonna, who is struggling with emotional and psychological stress, begins to spiral into panic and hopelessness.

What begins as a simple accident quickly escalates into a battle of wills for survival. As time drags on, their thoughts turn to desperate measures, with limited resources and an ever-worsening sense of urgency.

The suffocating environment and the mounting pressure from the loss of hope force them to confront their darkest fears, both physical and emotional. The sisters must ultimately find a way to work together and overcome their past differences in order to escape the terrifying trap they’re in before it’s too late.
